Glossary

Each series' own glossary; adding terms, bulk import with JSON, JSON and CSV export, categories, and how the glossary appears on the translation screen.

Updated:

Every series has its own Glossary. Character names, place names, skills, sound effects and anything else that must be translated the same way throughout the series go here. The translator and proofreader see the glossary on their own screens.

Where to find it

On the series page press Manage on the Glossary card. The card shows the first five terms and the total count. Go to Glossary in the glossary panel of the translation screen opens the same page.

The glossary page

Glossary page: the buttons on top and the category filter

  • Search terms... searches the terms.
  • The category buttons (All, Character, Sound Effect…) filter the list. Only categories used in the glossary become buttons.
  • Each row shows the term, an Important badge if set, the category, translation, reading, who added it and when. The pencil edits, the trash can deletes.

Categories: Character, Location, Organization, Skill, Item, Creature, Sound Effect, Term, Expression, Other.

Adding a term

  1. Press New Term.
  2. Fill in Term (the original spelling) and Translation, and choose a Category.
  3. Optionally add Reading, Romaji, Description, Usage Note and First Seen (e.g. the chapter it first appears in).
  4. For terms that must never be missed, tick Mark as an important term.
  5. Press Create.

The New Term form

A term exists only once in a series; it cannot be added twice.

Bulk import

  1. Press Import.
  2. Choose a JSON file with Upload File, or paste the text with Paste JSON and press Preview.
  3. Check the terms in the preview and press Import N Terms.

The Import window and the expected fields

The file must be a list; every entry needs term, translation and category. The category value is the English short name: character, location, organization, skill, item, creature, sfx, term, expression, other. Optional fields: reading, romanization, description, is_important (true/false).

[
  { "term": "주인공", "translation": "Main character", "category": "character" }
]
  • Up to 100 terms can be imported at once.
  • If a term already exists in the glossary, no new entry is created; the existing term is updated with the incoming data.

Export

Export → Download as JSON or Download as CSV (Excel). The JSON file is in the format the import expects: download, edit, upload again.

The glossary on the translation screen

The translation screen has a Glossary panel next to it:

  • You can search terms and filter by category or by Important terms.
  • Clicking a term copies its translation to the clipboard.
  • Quick Add adds a new term without leaving the translation.
  • If the original spelling of a term is left in your translation, an "Untranslated terms detected" alert appears; clicking the term copies its translation. The same alert appears on the proofreader screen.

The full translation screen: Translation screen.

Who can do this

  • Viewing the glossary, adding, editing and importing terms: people assigned in this series, plus the team owner, Fansub Admin and Fansub Moderator.
  • Deleting terms: only the team owner, Fansub Admin and Fansub Moderator. A member assigned in the series does not see the delete button.
