Joining a team by invitation

Joining a team with an email invitation or an invite link: signing up, choosing your role, approval-based joining, the My Invitations page and the Welcome screen.

Updated:

A team can bring you in two ways: an invitation sent to your email address, or an invite link shared somewhere like Discord. Both open the same Fansub Invitation page. If you manage a team and want to send invitations, see Members and invitations.

Step by step

  1. Open the link from the invitation email or the one shared with you. The Fansub Invitation card shows the team name, Role: and Invited by:.
  2. If you have no account, press Sign Up and Join; if you do, press Log In and Join. You can also sign up and log in with your Google or Discord account.
  3. If you created a new account, verify your email. The verification screen tells you which team is waiting for you.
  4. If the invitation has a fixed role, you join the team as soon as verification is done.
  5. If the role says You will choose your role when joining, you return to the invitation page: under Choose Your Role, tick one or more task badges. The first one you tick becomes your Main role.
  6. Press Accept.

When you join with Accept on the invitation page, the Welcome screen opens: your roles, the team's member and series counts, and under Where to start? the Team Hub, Fansub Chat, Series, My Tasks and Notification Settings cards. If you joined automatically after signing up, the Dashboard opens instead; the notification you receive links to the Welcome screen. A message announcing that you joined is also posted in the team chat.

Approval-based joining

Some invite links require a team manager's approval. The invitation card then shows the note "Joining this team requires a team manager's approval."

  • Pressing Accept does not put you in the team right away; it sends a join request.
  • The invitation page says Your join request is awaiting approval. The same information appears on the My Invitations page (and on the Dashboard if you are not in any team yet).
  • Once the request is approved, you get a notification and join the team.
  • If it was declined, the invitation page says Your join request was declined; talk to a team manager.

My Invitations

My Invitations in the sidebar lists the still-valid invitations sent to your account's email address. Each one shows the team name, "Invitation for the … role" and who invited you; answer with Accept or Decline. Your pending join requests are listed here too. If nothing is waiting, the page says There are no pending invitations.

Good to know

  • The role you pick is a task badge (such as translator or typesetter): it appears next to your name but grants no permissions on its own. To work on a step, you must be assigned to it. See Roles and permissions.
  • Only the system's task badges are offered; custom roles created by the team cannot be picked here.
  • Only email invitations can be declined. An invitation from a shared link has no decline button; simply close the page if you don't want to join.
  • If you accept an invitation from a team you are already in, you don't become a member twice; your missing roles are added ("Your roles for this fansub have been updated.").
  • Invitations expire. If you see This invitation has expired., ask a team manager for a new link. If the link you signed up with turns out to be invalid, your account is still created, but you need a new link to join the team.
  • If the team's plan has reached its member limit, joining cannot be completed (Failed to accept the invitation.). A team manager can sort this out.
  • If you opened your account through an invitation link, you cannot create your own team (see Setting up your first team).
