Series messages

Every series has its own chat room; the Series Messages inbox collects them, who sees which room, and when a series chat notification is sent.

Updated:

Every series has its own chat room, so talk about one series doesn't crowd the team chat. Series Messages collects every series chat you can access in one list.

Where to find it

  • Series Messages in the left menu. The number there is the count of unread messages in series chats.
  • The Series Chat card on a series page opens the same room (see Series page).

The Series Chat card on a series page

Step by step

  1. Open Series Messages. On the left, series are sorted by their latest message; each row shows the latest message, its author and the unread count.
  2. Narrow the list with Search series, message or @person, the Unread only button, or the All / Mine choice. Mine shows only the series you work on; the choice appears only for people who see both series they work on and series they don't.
  3. Series without any messages yet sit collapsed at the bottom under Series without messages; open it and pick a series to write the first message. A series that isn't listed at all joins the list the first time its series page is opened.
  4. Click a series: its chat opens on the right. Open series takes you to the series page.

Series Messages: search and filters on the left, the selected series' chat on the right

The chat itself (writing, @mentions, GIFs, editing, deleting, search) works exactly like team chat: see Team chat. On a phone the list and the chat are separate screens; the Series Messages button takes you back to the list.

Who sees which room

A series chat is visible to:

  • the team owner, Fansub Admin, Fansub Moderator and Chat Moderator — for every series;
  • everyone who works on that series — members of the series team, members assigned to one of its steps, or members given a series-specific permission (see Step assignments).

Read Chat (chat.read) is also required; every member gets it with the basic membership. If you don't work on any series, the list says You have no series chats yet. They appear here once you are assigned to a series.

In a series chat you can only mention people who can see that chat (Only people who can see this series chat can be mentioned). @all also notifies only these people.

When you get notified

Not every message in a series chat creates a notification. The rule:

  1. when the message arrived you had no unread messages in that chat, and
  2. 20 seconds after the message you still haven't read it.

When both are true you get one notification; you won't get another for the same chat until you read it. If the chat is open on your screen you have already read the message, so nothing is sent. If the sender deletes the message within 20 seconds, nobody is notified.

If this message already mentioned you, replied to you or used @all, you don't get a second notification. The notification belongs to the Series Chat Messages category: it comes to the panel and Telegram, never by email. To turn it off, see Notifications.

Good to know

  • Series chats follow the Full Chat History setting too: when it is off, a new member only sees messages sent after they joined the team.
  • The series must belong to your active team. If you are in several teams, switch to that team first.
  • Someone removed from a series no longer sees its chat or gets its notifications.
