Step assignments

Assign people to each step of a series, give every step to one person, change the series' workflow and grant series-specific chapter creation.

Updated:

Who works on which step of a series is decided on the Step Assignments screen. To open a step screen (translation, cleaning, typesetting…) and work in it, you must be assigned to that step. The badges in the member list (Translator, Typesetter…) are only labels and do not open any step to anyone. The series team is managed here as well: the Assigned Team card on the series page shows these assignments.

Where to find it

Press Assignments at the top of the series page. Manage on the Assigned Team card and Change on the Workflow card open the same screen.

Assigning people to steps

Each step of the series' workflow is listed as a card. If nobody is assigned, the card says Nobody assigned yet; required steps also show an Unassigned badge.

  1. Press Add Member on the step card.
  2. The list on the left filters by rank. The rank with the same name as the step is preselected; choose All Ranks to see everyone. If nobody has that rank, typing in the search shows every member.
  3. Find the person in Select a member and press Add.

The cross next to an assigned person removes them from the step. The person assigned or removed gets a notification (not if you assigned yourself). A step can have more than one person.

Members in their rookie period show Rookie next to their name.

Assigning every step to one person

In small teams one person takes most of the steps. On the Assign every step to one person card press Assign to me, or choose someone in Pick a person and press Assign all. The person is added to every active step they are not already on and gets a single notification.

Only team members (and the team owner) can be assigned to steps. To bring in someone from outside, first invite them to the team.

Changing the workflow

Pick the new workflow in the Workflow Template card. The Change the workflow? window tells you in advance what the change will do; press Change to confirm. The rules:

  • Chapters opened from now on follow the new workflow.
  • Finished chapters stay as they are and keep showing the steps they were made with.
  • Chapters that have not been started move to the new workflow.
  • Chapters in progress get the new workflow's missing steps; work already done is kept.
  • Assignments: assignments on matching steps carry over; assignments on steps the new workflow lacks are dropped. Moving from the one-person workflow to a multi-step one assigns the people on the one-person step to every step of the new workflow; the other way round, everyone assigned to any step moves to the one-person step.
  • No chapter can be in progress while switching between the one-person workflow and a multi-step one. If there is one, the switch does not happen and you are told which chapters to finish or delete first.

The workflow templates themselves are edited on the Workflows page. Editing a template affects every series that uses it; moving a series to another workflow affects only that series.

Series-specific chapter creation permission

Chapter creation permission card Chapter creation permission card

The Chapter creation permission card shows who can open new chapters in this series:

  • Already allowed by team role: the person's team role lets them open chapters in every series.
  • Allowed by step assignment: the person is assigned to a step in this series and the team setting Members assigned to a step can create chapters in that series is on. The right goes away when the assignment does.
  • Can create chapters in this series switch: gives anyone else the right to open chapters in this series only.

When the team setting is off, assigned members are also granted the right one by one with the switch. The setting is in Fansub Settings → Series and work. Unless you are the team owner or a Fansub Admin, you cannot switch it on for yourself or give someone a permission you do not have.

Looking for people and leaving a series

With the Looking for someone card at the top of the screen you can Post a call for an empty role and see incoming applications. Details: Looking for people.

A member working on the series sees Leave series on the same card. Leaving removes them from all of their steps, releases the chapter locks they hold and notifies admins/staff.

Who can do this

This screen needs the Assign Series Roles permission; the team owner always gets in. Without it you do not see the Assignments button on the series page. If the team's subscription does not allow writing, assignments cannot be made.
