Team chat
Writing in the Fansub Chat, @mentions and the @all rule, GIFs and images, editing, deleting, likes, search and read receipts.
Updated:
Team chat is the one room where every member of the team talks. Series-specific conversations live in Series Messages, one-to-one conversations in Messages.
Where to find it
Fansub Chat in the left menu. When there are unread messages, the count appears next to it. The page title is Fansub Chat.

Writing a message
- Type in the Type a message... field at the bottom.
- Enter sends, Shift+Enter adds a line.
- To add images, use Attach image, or drag the images onto the field (Drop images here) or paste them. A message takes at most 4 images; each image can be up to 5 MB, as JPG, PNG, GIF or WEBP. Chat images count toward the team's storage quota.
- Send a GIF searches and sends a GIF; Add emoji opens the emoji panel.
- To answer a message, choose Reply on it. A Replying to … bar appears above the field; Cancel reply drops it.
A message can be at most 2000 characters. On a phone, images and GIFs are grouped under the Attach (+) button left of the field.
@mentions and @all
Typing @ opens a list: ↑↓ to choose · Enter or Tab to insert · Esc to close. Only people who can see this chat appear; the person you mention gets a notification.

@all notifies everyone in the room; @everyone and @herkes do the same. The rules:
- The team owner can always use it. Everyone else needs the Mention Everyone (@all) permission (
chat.mention_all). Among the built-in roles, Fansub Admin, Fansub Moderator and Chat Moderator carry it; it can also be given to custom roles. - If you have it, the list shows a Mention everyone row and how many people will be notified.
- If you don't, the message is still sent but nobody is notified; the screen says You cannot mention everyone; the message was sent as plain text.
- The same person can mention everyone in the same room once every 5 minutes. If you try sooner, the message goes out without the notification.
Message actions
On desktop, hover over a message: Like, Reply, Copy and More actions appear beside it. On a phone, tap or press and hold the message; the actions open below it. Double-tapping likes the message.

- Edit: you can only edit your own messages. With the input empty, the ↑ key opens your last message for editing. An edited message shows edited. Mentions you add while editing are notified.
- Edit history: shows the earlier versions of a message. Only authorised people see it (below).
- Delete: you can delete your own messages; the message is deleted for everyone in the chat.
- Liked by: shows who liked the message.
Search
The magnifier in the chat's top bar (Search in chat) opens the search field. Type at least 2 characters and press Search; clicking a result jumps to that message.
Read receipts
The small profile pictures under a message show who has read up to that message. The team owner, Fansub Admin, Fansub Moderator and Chat Moderator always see them. When Fansub Settings → Chat and communication → Read Receipts is on, everyone sees them.
Who can do this
- Reading the chat needs Read Chat (
chat.read), writing needs Write in Chat (chat.write). Every team member gets both with the basic membership; someone without write permission sees You do not have permission to post in this chat. instead of the input. - Deleting other people's messages and viewing their edit history follows a ranking: the team owner and Fansub Admin can for everyone; Fansub Moderator for everyone except admins and moderators; Chat Moderator for everyone except admins, moderators and other chat moderators.
- The same people can bulk-delete a member's messages from that member's profile card with Delete messages: Last 1 day, Last 5 days or All time. This cannot be undone.
- Only the team owner, admins, moderators and chat moderators see This message was deleted in place of a deleted message; for other members it simply disappears.
Good to know
- When Full Chat History is off, a new member only sees messages sent after they joined. To change it go to Fansub Settings → Chat and communication (the team owner, Fansub Admin or anyone with Manage Fansub can change it). See Fansub Settings.
- Not every team chat message creates a notification; you are notified only when you are mentioned or someone replies to your message (the Chat Mentions category). See Notifications.
- If you have several roles, click your own badge in the chat's top bar to choose which role is shown in chat. Authority roles always come first.
- Clicking a person's name or picture opens their profile card: roles, View Profile and (when private messages are on) Send message.
