Chapter status, undoing a step and resetting
What each chapter status means, what Pending means, how to undo a completed step, the revision loop and resetting a chapter completely.
Updated:
A chapter's status is never picked by hand; it is worked out from which step of the workflow is active. This article explains what the statuses mean, how to undo a step you completed by mistake and how to restart a chapter.

Chapter statuses
| Status | When |
|---|---|
| Pending | The active step is RAW upload, or no step is active but the work is not finished. |
| Translating | The Translator step is active. |
| Cleaning | The Cleaner or Balloon Cleaner step is active. |
| Proofreading | The Proofreader step is active. |
| Typesetting | The Typesetter, Visual Editor or one-person step is active. |
| Quality check | The Quality Control step is active. |
| Completed | Every step is done. |
When the text and visual tracks run at the same time, more than one step can be active; the status then shows the most advanced one in the order above. For example, while translation and cleaning run together, the chapter shows Cleaning.
The status buttons on the series page filter by these statuses:

Step badges
Each step on the chapter page has its own badge:
- Pending or Not yet its turn: the step's turn has not come; it is waiting for the earlier steps it depends on.
- Active: the step can be worked on now.
- Completed: the step is done.
In the one-person workflow, a chapter in progress shows Typesetting; this is expected.
Undoing a completed step
If you completed a step by mistake or too early, press Undo on that step's row on the chapter page and confirm the Undo this step? window. The step reopens so you can fix it and complete it again. People on the later steps waiting for it are notified.
Undo is not shown or does not work when:
- You have no access to the step (you are not assigned and not an admin/moderator).
- The step has an open revision.
- The step is not in the series' current workflow (the chapter was finished with an older workflow).
- Someone else has started working on a later step. In place of the button it says "… has started the next step; ask them for a revision instead". The fix then goes through a revision.
If you do the later steps yourself (one person on several steps), undoing is not blocked.
The revision loop
If the person on a later step spots a problem in an earlier step, they request a revision instead of undoing. The step the revision is requested from reopens and its row shows a Revision badge; the requesting step shows Outgoing Rev.. Once the fix is completed, the work continues where it left off. In My Tasks, these tasks are listed at the top with a Revision badge.
Details: Proofreading and revisions, Quality check.
Resetting a chapter completely
On the chapter page press More actions (⋮) → Reset Completely.

This restarts the chapter from scratch: every uploaded file, translation, line comment and the revision history are permanently deleted. The chapter becomes empty, as if it had been deleted and re-added, and its workflow version goes up by one (v1 → v2). This cannot be undone. The people assigned in the series are notified that the chapter was reset.
If you only need to fix one step, use Undo or a revision instead of resetting.
Who can do this
- Undo: anyone with access to the step (the person assigned to it, the team owner, Fansub Admin, Fansub Moderator).
- Reset Completely: people with the Reset Chapters permission.
