Workflows

Workflow templates decide which steps a chapter goes through; ready-made templates, simple and advanced visual modes, parallel tracks and the fixed one-person workflow.

Updated:

A workflow is a template that says which steps a chapter goes through and in what order: RAW upload, translation, proofreading, cleaning, typesetting, quality control… Every series is attached to a workflow. Several series can share the same template.

Where to find it

In the left menu, click Workflows under Management.

Template cards and the buttons on top of the Workflows page

Each card shows the template's name, its number of steps and how many series use it. The team's default workflow carries the Default badge. The card's More actions (⋮) menu has Edit, Clone, Export (JSON), Make Default and Delete.

How the steps flow

  • Once the RAW step is done, the text track (Translator → Proofreader) and the visual track (Cleaner → Balloon Cleaner) run at the same time.
  • The Typesetter or Visual Editor waits for both tracks to finish. Quality Control comes last.
  • Steps that are not in the workflow are skipped. For example, without a RAW step, translation and cleaning start as soon as the chapter is opened.

When a step's turn comes, the people assigned to it get a "your step is ready" notification.

Creating from a ready-made template

Press Ready-made Templates, pick a template, optionally give it a name and press Create. Based on the team's member count, one template is marked Recommended (Single Track up to two people, Source on Record up to four, With Proofreading up to six, Stage by Stage for larger teams).

Template Steps
Single Track Translator → Visual Editor
Source on Record RAW Provider → Translator → Visual Editor → Quality Control
With Proofreading RAW Provider → Translator → Proofreader → Visual Editor → Quality Control
Stage by Stage RAW Provider → Translator → Proofreader → Cleaner → Balloon Cleaner → Typesetter → Quality Control

The same templates are at the top of the New Workflow page: Apply to Form puts the steps into the form, Create Now saves straight away.

Ready-made Templates on the New Workflow page

Building your own workflow

  1. Press New Workflow.

  2. Enter a Workflow Name and, optionally, a Description. Tick Set as default workflow if new series should start with this workflow selected.

  3. Choose a Visual Workflow Mode:

    • Simple: one person does all the visual work (Visual Editor).
    • Advanced: visual work is split into three steps (Cleaner + Balloon Cleaner + Typesetter).

    Visual Workflow Mode selection

  4. In Steps, turn on the optional steps. Core steps are part of every workflow: Translator, plus Visual Editor in simple mode or Typesetter in advanced mode. Ordering is automatic; Selected Steps (Ordered Preview) shows the result.

    Core and optional steps

  5. Press Create in the save bar. At least two steps are needed.

Editing a workflow

The Edit page is the same form and says at the top how many series use the workflow. Changing the template affects every series that uses it:

  • An added step opens in existing chapters. Finished chapters are reopened for the new step too.
  • Removing a step asks for confirmation: assignments for that step are dropped, untouched step records are cleaned up, completed work is kept.

If you only want to change one series, do not edit the template; move the series to another workflow instead: Step assignments. Finished chapters are then left alone.

The fixed one-person workflow

Every team has a system-provided Solo (Upload the Finished Chapter) workflow with a Fixed badge. It has a single step: you upload the finished pages of the chapter and press Complete. It cannot be edited, cloned or deleted; it can be exported and made the default. It is for people who translate, clean and typeset on their own computer: One-person workflow.

Import and export

Export (JSON) downloads the template as a file. In another team, press Import, upload that file and optionally give it a new name.

Who can do this

  • Seeing the page needs the View Workflow Status permission.
  • Creating, editing, cloning, importing, making default and deleting need Update Workflow Status. Without it these buttons are hidden.
  • The team owner can do everything.

Good to know

  • A workflow used by a series cannot be deleted. It cannot be deleted while a series in the trash uses it either: move that series to another workflow first, or wait until it is permanently deleted.
  • A deleted workflow cannot be restored.
