Opening chapters
Open a single chapter or a whole number range at once, set a deadline, who can open chapters and who gets notified when a chapter is opened.
Updated:
Opening a chapter starts the first steps of the series' workflow, so the people assigned to them can get to work. Chapters can be opened one at a time or as a number range.
Where to find it
Press New Chapter at the top of the series page. If the series has no chapters yet, Add the First Chapter in the list opens the same page.

Opening a single chapter
- In the Chapter Details card, keep Single chapter selected.
- Chapter Number is prefilled with the next number; change it if needed. Interim chapters can have a decimal number (e.g. 12.5).
- Optionally fill in Title (optional), Deadline (optional) and Description (optional).
- Press Create. The chapter page opens.

Opening chapters in bulk
- Press Range (bulk).
- Enter a Start number and an End number. Optionally give them all one shared Deadline.
- Press Create. You go back to the series page.

- Up to 50 chapters can be opened at once.
- Numbers that already exist (including those in the trash) are skipped.
- Ranges only work with whole numbers; open interim chapters in single mode.
Deadline
A deadline is a day and lasts until the end of that day (23:59 Istanbul time). Days before today cannot be chosen.
- Lists show how much time is left: "3 days left", "Due tomorrow", "Due today", "Deadline passed".
- Whoever's turn it is gets a reminder 3 days and 1 day before. If the day passes, the team owner is told too.
- A deadline locks nothing; work can continue after it passes.
You can change the date later from the chapter's Edit screen or with the calendar icon on the series page (Edit deadline).
What happens when a chapter opens
- The first steps of the series' workflow become active. When a single chapter is opened, the people assigned to those steps get a "your step is ready" notification.
- The series team gets a "new chapter" notification; the person who opened the chapter does not.
- When opening in bulk, the team gets one summary notification instead of one per chapter ("opened N chapters: 5, 6, 7"). If the team's Discord announcements are on, a single summary goes there too.
If the series gets a chapter on the same day every week, you can automate it: Weekly new chapter day.
Who can do this
Any one of these is enough:
- A team role that grants Create Chapters (the team owner can always open chapters).
- Being assigned to a step in this series while the team setting Members assigned to a step can create chapters in that series is on. The setting is on by default: Fansub Settings.
- The Can create chapters in this series switch turned on for you on Step Assignments: Step assignments.
Without any of these, the New Chapter button is not shown. If the team's subscription does not allow writing, chapters cannot be opened.
Common issues
- "This chapter number already exists.": the series already has a chapter with that number. Use a different number.
- "The deadline cannot be in the past.": pick today or a later day.
- Same number as a chapter in the trash: in single mode, giving a number that a chapter in the trash has opens the new chapter, but the one in the trash can no longer be restored until that number is free again. If you want the old chapter back, check the Trash first.
