What every step screen shares

The header, Complete button, "This Step Is Blocked" banner, Workflow panel, notes and revision banners that work the same on every step screen.

Updated:

Every job in a chapter (RAW upload, translation, cleaning, typesetting…) has its own screen. The content changes from step to step, but the top of the screen, the Workflow panel on the side, Notes and the revision banners behave the same everywhere. This article covers those shared parts; each step's own features are in its own article.

Where to find it

  • On the chapter page, a Your turn card appears when it is your turn; Continue takes you to the step screen. You can also click a step in the chapter page's workflow list.
  • On My Tasks, Go to Task next to the task.
  • Notifications such as "your step is ready" open the step screen directly.

The header

Step screen header: step name, status badge, deadline and the Complete button

  • The step name and a status badge: Active, Waiting or Completed. If a revision has been sent to this step but not accepted yet, the badge reads Incoming revision pending. If the step is active but you cannot work on it, a Locked badge appears next to it.
  • Below it: series name, chapter number and chapter title.
  • If someone is working on the step right now, their name is shown. If the step has been active for more than an hour, how long it has been open is shown.
  • If the chapter has a deadline, the date is shown. With three days or less to go, a badge appears: N days left, Due tomorrow, Due today or Deadline passed.
  • The ← / → buttons open the same step for the previous and next chapter, so you can work through several chapters without going back to the series page.
  • Request Revision: ask an earlier step for a fix (shown when this step has a step it can send revisions to). Details: Proofreading and revisions.
  • Complete: hand in your work. On the proofreader and quality control screens this button is called Approve. The Next: … line under it tells you which step the work moves to. After completing you land on the chapter page.

Request Revision and Complete only appear while the step is active and you are able to work on it.

When it is not your turn yet: "This Step Is Blocked"

The "This Step Is Blocked" banner and its reason on a step that is not ready yet

If you open a step before the steps it depends on are done, the screen still opens, but a red This Step Is Blocked banner sits at the top and lists the reasons:

  • Waiting for: … — which step has to finish first (for example "Waiting for: RAW Provider" for the translator).
  • Waiting for revision at … — an earlier step has an open revision.
  • The team subscription does not allow writing; the screen is read-only.

The Go to … buttons under the banner open the steps you can work on right now; Back to chapter takes you to the chapter.

If the step is active or completed but you cannot write to it, a yellow warning appears instead of the red banner: "You cannot work in this step: …". Common reasons: … is currently working on this step. (someone else is working on it) and This step is completed; reopen it from the mini panel to make changes.

On a blocked screen you cannot write: text fields, the upload area and the Choose Source Type card are disabled ("This step is not ready yet; you can choose here once the previous steps are done."). You can still see and download the earlier steps' files, source info and notes, so you can prepare while you wait.

The Workflow panel

The Workflow panel on the side of a step screen

The Workflow panel on the left shows every step of the chapter:

  • The progress percentage and the "N completed / N active / N pending" counts.
  • A next: … link if there is a next step you can work on.
  • In workflows where text and image work run separately, the state of the Translation and Visual tracks, and whether the step where they merge has its requirements met.
  • The step list: click a step to open its screen. Steps you are not assigned to are greyed out ("You are not assigned to this step") and cannot be clicked.
  • An Undo button on a completed step's row to reopen it (Chapter status and reopening).

On the steps that use the translation (proofreader, typesetter, visual editor, quality control) the side cards always come in the same order: Downloads first, then the translation's source, then Workflow.

Notes

What you type into Notes is saved automatically two seconds after you stop typing; Saved appears next to it, or Retry if saving failed. People on later steps see these notes under Previous Step Notes. If there is something the next person needs to know (a missing page, a special font, a tricky balloon), write it here.

Revision banners

  • Incoming Revision Requests (N): another step asked you for a fix. Preview the request, then Accept or Reject it. A reason is required to reject.
  • Waiting for Sent Revision: you asked for a revision and are waiting for the answer. Until it is accepted (Awaiting Acceptance) you can withdraw it with Cancel; once accepted it shows In Progress. Your own step is locked meanwhile.
  • Revision Completed / Revision Rejected: the outcome of a revision you asked for. Close the banner with the cross on the right.

If something changes in the chapter while the screen is open (someone completed a step, opened a revision), a notice appears at the top: "Something changed in this chapter…". The page does not reload by itself because you may be typing; press Refresh page when you are ready.

Who can work

  • The team owner, Fansub Admin and Fansub Moderator can always open a step screen. Other members open only the step they are assigned to in that series. Assignments are made on Step assignments; badges such as translator or typesetter do not by themselves let you write to a step.
  • Opening a screen is not the same as writing to it: you can only write once the step's turn has come (it is active).
